The smell of fall is in the air, which always means one thing: The holidays are nipping at our heels, and the whirlwind begins. I was chatting with friends and we agreed that this year’s holiday is going to be all about family.
It’s been a tough year for many, and whether you’re celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, let’s be thankful for—well, just being together this holiday.
In this issue, we’ve come up with a list of holiday events that are family-friendly. This season, why not give the gift of spending time together? And whether it’s a weekend trip or just sitting around drinking cocoa and playing board games, the memories you create will last a lifetime.
A few years ago, both my husband’s family and mine decided not to exchange gifts. This has completely changed our holiday get-togethers. Now, all I have to worry about are fun things like baking pies, making treats and writing out charades cards.
At work, my hubby and I give everyone our famous “peppermint bark,” and my daughter passes it out to teachers and friends. Not only is this a yummy, one-size-fits-all treat, but it’s become a holiday tradition.
We make mounds of the stuff, my kitchen floor is sticky for days from all the cracking peppermint, and our aprons are perpetually smeared with melted chocolate. We always crank up the holiday tunes, and honestly, it’s one of the highlights of the season.
These are the types of memories that families will remember fondly for years. Why not start your own tradition? Have a go with my famous peppermint bark. Check out the recipe at AAAGoingPlaces.com.
