Florida has long been a haven for those seeking relief from the cold days of winter. Most visitors are eager to trade in their snow shovels for sand shovels and long walks on sun-kissed beaches. Although the weather alone may be a draw for many, tourists also return to the Sunshine State to experience its unique and eclectic blend of natural wonders, world-class attractions, beaches, dining, shopping and entertainment.
Discovered in 1513 by Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon, Florida was named La Florida, or "Land of Flowers." This rich and diverse history can be explored in towns such as St. Augustine, the original site of Ponce de Leon's landing and considered the oldest European settlement in America. The city was established 55 years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock.
Discover the wonders this fascinating state has to offer as you travel the many roads that make up La Florida.
